  • Biography

    Dr. Smith is a computational quantum chemist with special emphasis on applications in catalysis and material science for industry (25+ years with Union Carbide, Dow Chemical, and MATRIC), but he is currently the Cyberinfrastructure Coordinator for the Division of Science and Research at WV HEPC in Charleston, where he supports research computing for higher education throughout the state.  Nationally, he serves on the XSEDE Champion Leadership Team, in support of academic researchers in computational science and supercomputing throughout the country.  Jack is also a part-time staff member with the Center for Environmental, Geotechnical and Applied Sciences (GEGAS) at Marshall University, where he has participated on several projects, mostly in support of scientific applications on Marshall’s HPC cluster (Big Green), visualization applications at their Visualization Lab, or in the development of virtual training environments.  He’s also an Adjunct professor for the College of Information Technology and Engineering (CITE) at Marshall.  Jack will be involved in various modeling activities for the AFI project and in the development of the collaboration portal WV Aquavit.
